Area 51 workers were provided with rosters of Soviet satellites, detailing when certain ones would fly over the Nevada test site so they could conceal the prototypes. "It was like a bus schedule, and it even told us whether it was an infrared satellite or what type it was," TD Barnes, a former hypersonic flight specialist at Area 51, told National Geographic in 2011. In addition to the sheds, workers also crafted decoy prototypes out of cardboard and other materials to cast shadows and deceive the satellites. At least one of the A-12's numerous test flights didn't go according to plan, crashing in the desert outside Area 51.

The judges of the UK-based Comedy Wildlife Photo Awards have studied more than 1,800 images submitted from 85 countries, assessing whether they are chucklesome, rib-tickling or an out-and-out hoot. And the overall winner for 2023 – drumroll, please, for this is a photo that welcomes musical accompaniment – is a kangaroo striking an air guitar pose. Wildlife conservationThere were an additional 10 entries that were recognized as Highly Commended winners. There’s a conundrum that economists and political strategists have been chewing on for more than a year: The economy is good, but Americans say it’s lousy. Just 2% of voters say the economy is excellent, according to a New York Times-Siena College poll. But there’s a conundrum within the conundrum, which is that, despite what Americans say, they are not behaving like a people particularly worried about the economy. The Atlantic published a really tough article about CNN CEO Chris Licht. The disaster I'm referring to is Tim Alberta's devastating profile of CNN chair and CEO Chris Licht published Friday. And maybe, the story suggests, that's because that big idea is not really Licht's plan at all but one foisted on him by his boss, Warner Bros. Through the summer, Alberta and Licht and CNN comms people talked about what the story might look like. A handful of sources tell me Kelly was skeptical of whether this was a good idea, Dornic was happy to do whatever, and Licht really, really wanted to do it.

There were some buying opportunities in tech on Thursday, according to two "Halftime Report" traders. Ritholtz Wealth Management CEO Josh Brown bought a small position in DocuSign Thursday morning, ahead of its anticipated earnings report in early March. People were calling it a stay-at-home stock," Brown said on " Halftime Report ." If the stock tanks on its earnings report, he expects it's an opportunity to increase his position. Brown had purchased shares last week , anticipating a rally into earnings and potential drop after the report.

Those questions and comments rolled in for the celebrity chef Alison Roman on Wednesday after she tweeted that she owns an induction stove "by choice." Induction units are five to 10% more energy efficient than conventional electric stoves, and three times more efficient than gas stoves. Copper or aluminum cookware won't work on an induction stove — magnetic metals like cast iron and some stainless steels are best. The majority of US homes already use conventional electric stoves, while about 38% use gas stoves, according to the US Energy Information Administration. The Inflation Reduction Act authorized an $840 rebate for low- and middle-income households that don't already have an electric stove.
